7. Army of Thieves
In this Zack Snyder prequel, the expert safe-cracker Dieter goes from bank teller to bank thief when he sheepishly enters the world of heists. He soon teams up with a gang of bank robbers to hit all the major banks in Europe. But the safes get tougher to crack as the missions become all the more dangerous, leading up to a nail-biter of a climax. Even without the previous film’s allure of zombies, Army of Thieves is a much better film for the slick and stylish showcase of car chases and gun fights. Directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, this heist picture stars Matthias Schweighöfer, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, and Jonathan Cohen.
8. The Wandering Earth
There are a lot of action films coming out of China but The Wandering Earth is one of the bigger pictures to come out of the country. The sci-fi epic tells the tale of a dying Earth that has led to humanity literally moving the planet to a new galaxy with a stable sun. This moving process involves intricate starships and the populace remaining underground as Earth’s surface becomes an uninhabitable wasteland. The mission grows all the tougher when natural disasters and mutinies threaten the survival of all mankind. Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake, a black-ops mercenary who takes on the most dangerous jobs. His latest mission involves saving the son of a drug lord in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
